“Because questions are intrinsically related to action, they spark and direct attention, perception, energy and effort, and so are at the heart of the evolving forms that our lives assume … Creativity requires asking genuine questions, those to which an answer is not already known. Questions function as open-handed invitations to creativity, calling forth that which doesn’t yet exist.”

Theses and Dissertations

This compilation of theses and dissertations was created by Dr. Niels Agger-Gupta, Associate Professor in the School of Leadership Studies at Royal Roads University.

The list is based on a search of UMI/ProQuest looking for the phrase, “world café,” in the title, abstract, or subject headings, and is current up to May, 2016. The fields in the spreadsheet correspond to the major bibliographic data fields found in Zotero (not all entries have information in all fields).

Where possible Aggar-Gupta has included content where there was substantive information provided in the thesis or dissertation describing the use of world café, since not all readers of this will have access to an online academic database. This was not possible for a number of theses or dissertations where the use of the Café was a substantive part of the inquiry, since that would involve including much of the document.

We are making it available here as a searchable, downloadable and comment-enabled Excel spreadsheet to support the work of other researchers. Please feel free to let us know if you find any of these works particularly useful, we as we have a long-term goal of creating an annotated bibliography and would appreciate any input.

Also, this is an initial compilation – if you know of any other theses or dissertations that use the World Cafe (in whole or in part), and/or are about the World Cafe, please contact us – we would love to hear about them. Thank you!
